#62: Confronting The Different, Part 4

While I’m not in a hurry to adopt one myself, I can particularly see how a hijab has its advantages. It would be super helpful if you didn’t feel like washing your hair for a while!
So, more an opportunistic muslima?
Anyway, you never need to hang out your religion, it’s a private stuff between God and yourself.
I like it when people take the pragmatic approach and just do their thing.
Also, with the rise of wealth in muslim countries, the range of fashion for hijabs and other “religious” clothing is tremendous. There have been quite some nice developments there, promoting individuality (which will ultimately be difficult for any religion).
I’ve always been impressed by the Jewish stance of “think what you want, those are your thoughts, believe what you want, it’s your heart; but stay true to yourself and act the way you think is the right way”.
forgot something
*and act the way you think and believe is the right way.”
I think at the time I was thinking about how, at least in America, for every Muslim in a hijab or every Jew with a black hat and sidelocks, there are at least two dozen representatives of either that look pretty much indistinguishable, going about their day, and barring obvious physical assumptions, you’d never know what they were if you didn’t ask!
And come on, man, FREE MOVIE CONCESSIONS! 🙂
Quicker access to the movie theatre, and even a free soda every now and then, is definitely worth it!
I think in Europe the quote is even higher.
Most jews and muslims here are not recognisable as such.
Hell, recently in Berlin an arabic muslim wore a Kippa to test if you’ll really be assaulted on the streets when recognisable as Jewish.
Alas, he was assaulted. By an arabic Muslim.
The guy and his friend recorded it all on video (mobile phone), hence the police had something to go with.
It’s a sad world when people cannot wear what they want, for whichever reason they want.
I can understand business needing certain professional behaviour (and the employees looking groomed/representable), but while on private time?
Caused quite some discussion in German news.
